Early voting begins Monday

Early voting for area elections gets underway on Monday morning

In the Harlingen municipal elections voters will be able to cast early ballots through Tuesday, April 30.

In Harlingen, Mayor Chris Boswell faces Miguel Angel Segura. For Commissioner District 1, incumbent Richard Uribe, JJ Gonzalez and and Isidro Marquez are vying for the seat.

For Commissioner District 2, incumbent Tudor Ulhorn faces Frank Puente Jr.

Early voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and again the following Monday and Tuesday.

You can cast an early ballot at Harlingen City Hall, town hall meeting room located on the second floor.

In Rio Hondo, residents are voting for city commissioners, school board members and decide whether to increase the sales tax to improve city streets.

For Commissioner Place 1, Rick Tello faces Juan Garza. In the races for Commissioner Place 3 and 5 are uncontested.

A special election is also taking place for the proposition regarding street maintenance reauthorization.

Voters must decide if they are willing to increase the local sales and use tax by 0.25% for the maintenance of municipal streets.

On the Rio Hondo school board, the race for Place 5 has Ruben Canales Jr. facing Alonzo Garza. The Place 6 seat has Valerie Flores, Manuel Flores Jr. and Rachel “Olive” Carrizales. In Place 7 Ernestina “Ernie” Rodriguez faces Jaime R. Lopez.

Early voting is take place at the school administration building, 215 W. Colorado St. beginning Monday through Saturday.
