Shelter to host inaugural run/walk

RAYMONDVILLE — It’s no secret Bill Reagan and Pam Leverett from Loaves and Fishes are avid runners, so it was a perfect idea to organize a 5K/1K run and walk fundraiser to benefit the shelter’s Willacy County Center.

Registration is well under way for the inaugural event, scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at 7 a.m. at the Rural Technical Center, 700 FM 3168, in Raymondville.

“It’s looking really good. I think we’re going to have a great result,” Leverett said. “We have great support from the community, the police chief, the municipality and the county.”

Those interested can register online at or onsite the morning of the event. The cost for participants 16 years and older is $25 and for those under 16 is $15.

The first 50 participants to register will receive a custom finisher’s medal and T-shirt.

Vendors are also welcome to join the event by setting up a table or canopy at no cost.

“We want to make sure everyone is aware of the services we provide in Willacy County,” Leverett said about the Loaves and Fishes location in Raymondville. “We’re super excited.”
