Driver injured when pickup slams into cement truck

A woman was seriously hurt overnight when her truck slammed into the back of a cement truck in Harlingen.

Police say the accident happened at 12:53 a.m. on the 2600 block of US 77 Southbound Frontage.

Investigators say the woman was driving a black 2009 Nissan Titan pickup southbound on the frontage road and rear ended a ready mix cement truck.

The force of the impact crushed the truck. Firefighters used the jaws of life to cut away the driver’s side door and the roof the of the truck in order to remove the woman.

She suffered numerous injuries and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

The Harlingen Police Highway Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the crash.
