A number of beaches are closed due to high tides on the Island. Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. ordered the temporary closure of the following county beaches:

  • County Beach Access #5
  • County Beach Access #6
  • Boca Chica Beach

No vehicles will be allowed on the beaches. Some of the beaches have little sand visible, with the waves coming up to the dunes.

The rest of the county beach areas, including Isla Blanca and Andy Bowie county parks remain open.

As a cold front slowly moves through the Valley, there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service in Brownsville says some isolated storms may produce gusty winds, hail and heavy rainfall.

There is also a high risk of rip currents on the Island and Boca Chica Beach through Saturday.

The storms are expected to stay around the weekend and strengthen Tuesday and Wednesday.

Temperatures today will be in the 80s across the Valley and in the 70s in the ranchlands.
