LETTERS: Protecting babies

A day after the Alabama House of Representatives passed what could become the most restrictive abortion legislation in the country, Alabama State Rep. John Rogers argued that “it ought to be a woman’s choice” to terminate a pregnancy.

Rogers added, “Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or kill them later.

You bring them into the world unwanted, unloved, then you send them to the electric chair.

So, you kill them now or you kill them later. But the bottom line is that I think we shouldn’t be making this decision.”

Women’s reproduction rights should not include the license to kill.

The act of snuffing out the life of an unborn child in the mother’s womb is a social evil.

As Americans we own the bloodguilt!

One of government’s responsibilities is to restrain evil. Are you complicit in this evil?

“Can wicked rulers be allied with thee, who frame mischief by statute?

They band together against the life of the righteous, and condemn the innocent to death.”

Indifference is not an option!

“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.

If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?

Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not requite man according to his work?”

“The so-called right to abortion has … sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships,” observed Mother Teres. “It has portrayed the child—as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience.

It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters.

This unconscionable power must be rejected. Both mother and child deserve respect, protection, and care.”
