Santa Rosa shelter turned into respite center for flood victims

Courtesy photo The American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast Region opened five shelters throughout Cameron, Willacy and Hidalgo County to aid those affected by severe rain and flooding the Valley experienced earlier this week.

The American Red Cross has converted a shelter for flood victims into a daytime respite center where they can come for meals and emergency clean up supplies.

The Santa Rosa Youth Center at 513 South FM 506 will only be open during the day.

A Red Cross spokeswoman says on Wednesday night 125 residents sought a place to sleep at the various locations.
