San Benito to host 12th annual Resacafest

SAN BENITO — A day filled with music, food and fireworks is in store for the Valley’s self-proclaimed resaca community.

The City of San Benito will host its free 12th annual Resacafest Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m. at W.H. Heavin Memorial Park.

In addition to food, craft vendors, games, family activities and fireworks, several bands will perform throughout the evening.

Christina y Los Latinos will kick off the event with a performance at 4:30 p.m. followed by Drew and the Dance Hall Dreamers at 5:45 p.m., then EPI and Friends at 7 p.m.

Los Desperadoz will perform at 8:15 p.m., and Albert Zamora will close the show with a performance at 9:30 p.m.

The San Benito Spectacular Fireworks Show will begin at 10:30 p.m.

Road closures are scheduled for North Resaca Drive from Freddy Fender Lane to Business 77 from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday.

General admission is free, however due to the destructive effects of the recent heavy storm, attendees are encouraged to donate non-monetary donations such as cleaning supplies and non-perishable food.

According to city officials, the closure was made for the public’s safety during the fireworks show.

According to City of San Benito Cultural Arts Director Luis Contreras, Resacafest is a great continuation of Fourth of July celebrations.

“The city creates this community event to celebrate both the community and the spirit of America,” he said. “We really enjoy seeing our community enjoy themselves and have a great time.”
