8 kilos of cocaine found in tractor trailer

HARLINGEN – A driver of a tractor trailer was arrested Sunday afternoon for possession of a controlled substance after the Harlingen Police Department Narcotics K9 recovered approximately eight kilos of cocaine.

While conducting traffic enforcement Sunday at about 3 p.m. on Expressway 77/83, Harlingen police officers noticed the tractor trailer tailgating another vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Officers reported the driver became increasingly nervous, prompting a request to search the vehicle.

After receiving consent, officers discovered a duffle bag in the cab of the truck with packages containing a white powdery substance.

The driver was transported to the Harlingen Police Department and the vehicle was impounded, pending further investigation.
