HARLINGEN — From printing info packets to creating raffle baskets and selling tickets, Jacklyn Medrano has been working daily alongside coworkers and volunteers in preparation for their big event this weekend.
The Family Crisis Center will host its eighth annual Champagne Brunch Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jackson Square Event Center in Harlingen.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for a silent auction preview and brunch will be served at 11 a.m.
“It’s a lot of fun seeing the different items that are up for auction and have been placed in the raffle,” said Medrano, Family Crisis Center’s community educator. “Everyone has a really good time while knowing they’re supporting a great cause.”
Veronica Kortan, Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District’s Organizational Development Administrator, will serve as the keynote speaker for this year’s brunch.
General admission tickets cost $60 and raffle tickets cost $5.
All donations, sponsorships and ticket sales will be used to continue funding free services the Family Crisis Center provides to Cameron and Willacy counties, such as counseling and 24-hour emergency shelter for assault victims and their children.
Medrano said she felt motivated to work with the Family Crisis Center because she wanted to be a part of its mission to help those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.
“It’s something so common, but yet something that needs to be prevented,” she said. “Sometimes victims don’t speak out so we have to be their voice and let them know they are not alone in these situations.”
