Teens arrested in local car theft

HARLINGEN — Five adults and one juvenile were arrested Monday in connection with the theft of a vehicle and charged with evading arrest.

The Harlingen Police Department responded to a call in the 400 block of West Roosevelt Street in reference to a stolen vehicle.

Officers were able to locate it on the 200 block of East Roosevelt Street.

Police said they attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused and fled from authorities.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 2500 block of S. Bus. 77, where all six suspects exited the vehicle and fled, police said.

The fleeing suspects were later located and placed under arrest that same day, according to police.

Johnathan Sandoval, 17, of San Benito, has a bond of $20,000 for theft and a bond of $7,500 for evading arrest.

Police said Rebekah Abernathy, 17, of Harlingen, Christopher Martinez, 17, of Harlingen, and Jasper Abernathy, 19, of Harlingen, have a bond of $5,000 for evading arrest. Johanna Bravo, 17, of Harlingen, has a bond of $3,500 for evading arrest, police said.
