HARLINGEN – Blood donations can make a difference between life and death for so many vulnerable patients, such as a 7-year old boy battling leukemia who benefits from frequent blood and platelet transfusions.
“It was literally the gift of life when my grandson received his blood transfusions,” stated the boy’s grandmother in a press release. “Within three minutes, it gave him life back from being weak, pale and almost seeming lifeless. He perked up and came back to life asking for food.”
Harlingen Medical Center invites the community to give the “gift of life” by participating in today’s blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the hospital’s front lobby, located at 5501 S. Expressway 77.
All potential blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, eat before making a donation, and provide proper identification.
Donors will receive an Amazon gift card, as well as free snacks and refreshments.
“With the holidays coming up, blood donors can help to maintain an adequate blood supply for those in need,” Dan Cavazos, Donor Recruitment Consultant with the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, stated in the release. “Many thanks to all who donate blood. You are true super-heroes.”
