HARLINGEN — A man accidentally ran over and killed his 2-year-old son late yesterday afternoon after the boy apparently ran behind his pickup truck, police said.

The man was pulling out of his driveway in an F-150 Ford pickup when he ran over the boy, who was dead at the scene at about 5:40 p.m. in the 100 block of West Wilson Ave., Officer Orlando Gonzalez said.

“The dad never saw the child,” Gonzalez said. “It was unintentional. It was accidental.”

At about 7 p.m., police continued to investigate the scene.

“The child may have walked behind a vehicle that was in motion,” police Commander David Osborne said.

Gonzalez said he was withholding the names of the father and son.
