HARLINGEN — The annual Style Show and Luncheon hosted by Loaves and Fishes has been cancelled.
Amidst concerns of coronavirus, Loaves and Fishes has decided to not hold the event, even though a post on the event’s Facebook page on March 12 said the show will go on as scheduled.
“The health and safety of our clients, staff and supporters in the community is our first mission,” said Bill Reagan, Executive Director.
The event was meant to happen April 14.
The Centers for Disease Control has recommended that gatherings not exceed 50 people, and the White House has also recommended that groups be limited to 10 individuals.
Because of these guidelines, Reagan said it was best to cancel the show for the moment.
“Attendance at the Style Show is over 300. We want to do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19. Although our Spring Style Show is one of Harlingen’s premier events, and an important fundraiser for Loaves & Fishes, we don’t want to do anything that might compromise the health and wellbeing of our community,” he said.
“We trust God to provide the resources we will need to bring help and hope to the hungry, the homeless and the hurting,” Reagan said.
