Willacy County confirms five more COVID-19 cases

RAYMONDVILLE — Public health officials have confirmed five more Willacy County residents have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing this rural county’s total case count to 59.

Meanwhile, city officials are testing residents for the COVID-19 virus free of charge at the Raymondville Community Room, 547 W. Hidalgo Ave., from 3 to 7 p.m. through Saturday.

On Friday, the state health department reported a female in her 20s and a teenage boy had contracted the COVID-19 virus.

Then on Sunday, health officials confirmed a man in his 40s, another in his 20s and teenage boy had also contracted the virus.

Now, officials are investigating to determine whether they infected others.

“The patients are currently isolated,” Dr. Emilie Prot, Region 11’s medical director, stated in a press release.

Health officials are “supporting Willacy County in identifying any close contacts of the patient so they can be isolated and monitored for symptoms.”
