It appears that longtime BISD board trustee Minerva M. Pena has been ousted from office by 10 votes.

Unofficial results released this morning indicate Pena received 16,480 votes to challenger Marisa Leal’s 16,490.

However, according to the county’s Election Department, the voting ballot board will meet early next week to review provisional ballots, late ballots by mail and military/overseas ballots.

Pena said she will seek a recount.

“I am very grateful to all the people who believe in [me] and voted for me,” she said Wednesday.
