The school district’s Back-to-School Convocation, held recently at San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy, featured keynote speaker Weston Kieschnick, renowned author and senior fellow with the International Center for Leadership in Education.

Kieschnick’s bestselling book, “Bold School: Old School Wisdom + New School Technologies = Blended Learning That Works,” embraces the approach of combining purposeful technology and old school wisdom to elevate instruction and enhance learning. During the convocation, he shared innovative ideas that can help redefine the district’s vision for teaching and learning.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nate Carman recently recognized the efforts of full-time classroom teachers and classroom teaching assistants. During the school district’s Back-to-School Convocation, Carman revealed that the Board of Trustees had granted approval to provide each one of them with a crisp $100 bill to reimburse them for making out-of-pocket expenses to set up their classrooms and buy supplies for students who may need assistance.

Schools Recognized

Campus principals and staff members earned recognition for receiving Texas Education Agency (TEA) distinctions for their performance. Five campuses, including Fred Booth Elementary, La Paloma Elementary, Frank Roberts Elementary, Berta Cabaza Middle School and San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy each earned one TEA distinction; Judge Oscar De La Fuente Elementary, Dr. Raul Garza, Jr. STEAM Academy, and San Benito High School each earned two TEA distinctions; Rangerville Elementary earned four TEA distinctions; Ed Downs Elementary earned five TEA distinctions; and Dr. C.M. Cash Elementary earned six TEA distinctions. Musical Welcome

During the school district’s Back-to-School Convocation, the San Benito High School Mighty Greyhound Drumline provided a bold musical welcome to the school district’s employees while the San Benito High School and San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy cheerleaders and dance teams stood alongside cheering for everyone.

The “We’re Going for the Bold” superheroes theme set a tone of excitement for the 2018-2019 school year.
