San Benito cheerleaders invited to national competition

The newly formed competition squad comprised of San Benito Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshmen cheerleaders recently competed at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Southwest Regional Competition at Texas State University in San Marcos.

The cheer squad won first place in the Super Varsity Non-Tumbling Division. In addition, the competition squad received an invitation to compete at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, slated for February 2017 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The award-winning cheer squad includes, in no particular order, San Benito High School cheerleaders Ashley Cardenas, Angelina Carrizales, Diana Cepeda, Kimberly Coronado, Mikayla Garcia, Zaralegui Guzman, Mia Longoria, Kayla Martell, Citlalith Mata, Cordylia Ochoa, Jovannah Ortiz, Jelina Ramos, Leann Ramirez, Alexis Vasquez, Andrea Vela, Kristen Ybarra; San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy cheerleaders Alysha Nuñez, Angelin Cruz, Chloe Estrada, Nayeli Rodriguez, Jasmin Marroquin, Brianna Rodriguez, Janet Paz, Raven Rios, and Mariah Garza.

Their coaches are San Benito High School head coach Ashley Camacho-Garza and assistant Velma Garcia and San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy head coach Isabel De La Cruz and assistant Kay Marquez-Rojas.
