LOS FRESNOS — The Los Fresnos school district did especially well this year on the state’s accountability system.

The district did so well in the post-secondary readiness category of the Texas Education Agency’s rating system that it received a “distinction designation,” says the district’s website. It was one of only 26 districts in Texas to earn this distinction.

All 14 campuses in the district received the “Met Standard” rating on the test, says the district’s website. Campuses that achieve that rating can also earn distinction designations in six areas, including post-secondary readiness, says the TEA website.

Distinction designations, says TEA, are awarded to campuses based on achievement in several performance indicators relative to a group of 40 campuses of similar type, size and student demographics.

“We are extremely honored to be one of 26 school districts in Texas to be recognized for our distinction designations,” Los Fresnos schools Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar said. “Having all campuses and the district meet the higher standards of the Texas STAAR accountability system validates the hard work of our students, teachers and staff.”
